We work closely with leading Bulgarian universities and research bodies on outlining the necessary steps to grow space technology and science activities in the nation. We forge a symbiotic relationship where universities can integrate their scientific focus areas within our missions, while benefiting from our practical experience by incorporating it into their curricula through documentation and student involvement.

Faculty of Physics at Sofia University
The Faculty of Physics at Sofia University is a principal partner in many of our activities and a key element of our R&D network.
It hosts the only Aerospace Engineering program in Bulgaria and develops small satellite propulsion systems, plasma technology, long-range communications, nuclear technology, and many others. It has an extensive set of testing and research facilities. The Faculty is the leading national establishment in physics.
The SAT-1 Initiative actively collaborates with the Faculty to improve space mission design methodologies and standards through practical payload and mission design work. We also seek to involve Faculty students in simulations, equipment testing and integration, and to collaborate on science payloads.
New Bulgarian University is a major partner in both educational and outreach activities. Under a comprehensive collaboration agreement, the Initiative helps introduce space mission design and systems engineering approaches to the University’s engineering programs.
Technological cooperation is mainly focused on communications systems and formulation of science tasks for space missions. In a longer perspective, we seek to collaborate on payload design with the University.

Shumen University
Shumen University is a leading national institution in the field of astronomy. Along with Sofia University, it is the only one in the country to operate its own astronomical observatory.
The Initiative cooperates with Shumen University researchers on gradually introducing scientific tasks for future spacecraft, and holds discussions on future collaboration on science payloads for satellites from our roadmap.
Sofia Tech Park is another key element of our network. Learn more.
